An autobiography of the author, Vivian Stratton who recounts his youth and early experiences working on his family's farm in West Cornwall where he learnt the ways of birds and insects. Facinated by the natural world, his boyhood on the farm and surrounding area led him to becoming a natualist with and extensive knowledge of bird-life. Later, he travelled the world questing for new natural wonders.
