LARRY HAM: Guernsey's Cornish-born artist by Peter Davies
A monograph about the late Larry Ham (1934 - 2007) who was born in Newquay but lived in Guernesey for fifty years. A gifted painter, the rocky coastline and gripping oceanic environment there informed strongly coloured, semi-abstract compositions.
This well informed francophile painter shied away from artist groups like the St Ives 'School' to whose work Ham's never-the-less corresponds, to absorb a trio of primary influences - Cézanne, de Stael and later Matisse.
